Sightsavers

There are 39 million blind people in the world, but yet a staggering 80% of blindness could be prevented or cured with the right attention and care. That means there are over 31 million people out there who are blind when it could have been avoided. This is an unacceptably high number. Sightsavers is an international organization working in over 30 countries to eliminate avoidable blindness and to support those who have visual impairments. To date, they’ve performed 6.1 million sight-restoring cataract operations, treated 43 million people with trachoma antibiotics, and aided in 295 million protective treatments for river blindness.
